AS RED IS THE ECCLESIASTICAL COLOUR to celebrate the coming of God’s Holy Spirit, why not wear something red to church next Sunday ? What a statement that would make !

NEIL LAMBERT, our new Curate, is moving into Church House on 2nd June together with his wife, Helen, and 3 children (Alice, Joseph and Anna). We would like to continue the parish tradition of welcoming new clergy with a well-stocked larder. If you would like to donate non-perishable goods for them, please put them in the box by the inner Parish Office door, or hand them to Churchwardens on Sunday.

CONGREGATION CONSULTATION: we need to hear your views and concerns with regard to the proposed extension work at the Good Shepherd. A booklet for each member of the congregation will be published and a thorough presentation will be made on 27th June at the Good Shepherd. Please put the date in your diary. Presentations will also be made at St. Nicholas’ and Wisley Churches. It is crucial that if you have any queries, concerns, objections, whatever, we hear from you. WE WELCOME ROGER MILTON, Project Manager for the Ilmao School in Kenya, who is talking to us at the 10am service at the Good Shepherd today to give an update on the progress already made and future plans. It is hoped he will also speak in the Old School Room after the 11.30am service at St. Nicholas’.

MARGARET COX has now moved to Old Hall, Send Marsh. No doubt she would welcome visitors.

THE NEXT DEANERY SYNOD MEETING, to which you are all invited, will take place on 16th June at 7.45pm in the Emanuel Church, Saunders Lane, Mayford. The speaker, the Reverend William Challis, DDO, will talk about ‘Encouraging vocations and the changing face of ministry’.

A FOUR MILE SPONSORED HISTORY PARISH WALK will take place between the 3 churches today, starting at the Good Shepherd at 1.30pm in aid of the Rowley Bristow Trust. Why not sponsor someone or get someone to sponsor you ? Drinks will be available at each church, and cream teas at the Good Shepherd to finish. DONATIONS FROM NON-SPONSORED WALKERS WELCOME.

THE ORDINATIONS of Helen MacDonald, Charles Gibson and Neil Lambert:

Helen and Charles will be ordained as Priests at Guildford Cathedral on Saturday 3rd July at 5pm. Neil (our new Curate) is being ordained as Deacon on Sunday 4th July, 10.30am, again in the Cathedral. Everyone is very welcome to attend these services - indeed your support would be most appreciated. There will be a Bring and Share lunch at the Good Shepherd for the whole parish on the Sunday to celebrate the ordinations, say goodbye to Helen (whose last working day that will be) and to say hello to the Lamberts.

GOOD SHEPHERD COFFEE next Sunday will be served by Alan Wiltshire’s housegroup.

THE PARISH MAGAZINE NEEDS HELP. A type-setter will be needed from August –February (inclusive). The job can be performed at home, therefore Microsoft Publishing and a scanner with photo-editing suite is essential. Training can be provided. Please call Annette Oborne, 348101.

IF YOU WISH TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE in complete confidence on a Sunday after the 10am CGS service, a member of the Prayer and Listening team is available to pray with you in the chapel about whatever concerns you, for yourself or others.

AFTER THE GREAT SUCCESS OF LAST YEAR’S APPEAL to support the homeless locally, there is another effort this year hopefully to do even better. Bed linen, towels, bed sheets, duvet covers, pillowcases and duvets are needed. (Please call Cornelia Eliott-Lockhart on 342808 about this). Also, toiletries, household cleaning materials and any non-perishable foods will be most welcome (which may be left in a collecting box in the Good Shepherd Narthex). If you buy one and get one free – how about donating the second item ?

GUILDFORD CATHEDRAL would like to improve its welcome towards the huge number of visitors it receives each year at Ordination Services. They are inviting each parish involved to send one or two of its best sidespersons, who can be confident and efficient in welcoming and directing people to their seats, and then to communion, in an unfamiliar building. Those helping at the Ordination of Priests on Saturday 3rd July will need to be at the Cathedral by 3.45pm for the 5pm service. Those helping at the Ordination of Deacons on Sunday 4th July will need to be at the Cathedral by 9.15am for the 10.30am service. Would anyone interested, please contact Nicholas.

CELEBRATE PYRFORD: as part of the weekend to celebrate the Olympic Cycle Races, on Sunday 29th July our parish is hosting a Community Day on the Cricket Ground. The day will start with an open air service at 10am (to be held in the Good Shepherd if wet) followed by a community picnic and lots of fun events. Don't forget Coldharbour Road will be closed. For the day to run smoothly we need approximately 60 volunteers willing to give 30 minutes to stewarding, supervising bouncy castles, serving refreshments, face-painting, running field competitions and helping with the set-up and clear-up. If you are going to be in Pyrford that day please give us 30 minutes of your time to enable our community to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime event. OPEN GARDENS: we are planning to open a number of gardens to public viewing on Sunday 5th August in aid of EIKON, Hope for Uganda and The Friends of St. Nicholas Church (details will follow later). MINI PLANT-STALL RESULT: a big thank you to all those who contributed to the parish charities by buying plants last weekend. We made a most useful £164.50 which will be added to the Plant Stall's Shepherds Market takings.

CASH IN THE ATTIC MEETS BARGAIN HUNT AGAIN...... After the wonderful response to their stall last year at the Shepherds Market, Jill and Diana have decided to repeat the venture. They are looking for small collectible items in china, glass and silver etc. and good quality jewellery. If you have anything suitable, they are willing to take them now or nearer the time of the Shepherds Market (early November). IN RECOGNITION of Nicholas's 30 years of ordination, he is attending a 10 day course (9th - 19th July) at St. George's House, Windsor Castle at the invitation of the Bishop of Guildford. Please contact Ian Wallace if he can be of any help during Nick's absence.

ALLSORTS HOLIDAY CLUB! This provides fun and activities for 4 to 9 year olds during the summer holidays. Young helpers, adult helpers and grandparents are needed to join the team. Please contact Suzanne Lees-Smith if you might be able to offer your time to help supervise and have fun on any of the following days between 10.15am and 1.30pm: Monday 30th July, Tuesday 31st July, Wednesday 1st August, Thursday 2nd August and Friday 3rd August.

Suzanne is thinking about organising a PARENTING COURSE in the autumn term on Wednesday evenings for parents of children aged 0 - 10 years. Please contact her if you might like to help with serving refreshments or babysitting to enable parents to attend.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY: a fund-raising concert in aid of EIKON will take place on Friday 14th September in the Good Shepherd. Suzanne would love to hear from budding performers and anyone who might be able to help out on the night.

STEWARDSHIP APPEAL: Thank you to every one of the 157 people and families who, so far, have responded to the appeal. We sent 375 letters, so this is a response rate of 42%. The results are:
  • 71 were unable to increase their existing giving to the church, such giving being much appreciated
  • 16 have committed to establish new standing orders
  • 70 have committed to increase their existing giving to the church
    In financial terms, the new standing orders and increases to existing standing orders we estimate will total nearly £10,000 for the remainder of 2012 which, when Gift Aid is added, will be worth around £12,000 to the church. In a full year the total increase in income will be approximately £25,000 (some of the payments do not start immediately) which represents a year on year increase of nearly 10% in this year's budget for Direct Giving plus Gift Aid. This is a very generous and encouraging response by the congregation for which the Stewardship Committee is most grateful. It is the responsibility of the PCC to make decisions regarding the use of the funds in the light of the needs of the vision and on-going operational matters. If you have not responded yet, please do not worry - you still have time to do this. We are keen that everyone responds, even if you are unable to increase your existing giving which is itself greatly valued. We will publish a final summary in early August.     AS PART OF OUR VISION to reach further for Christ, we are having a 'Holiday at Home' - an event for those more senior members of the parish and wider community who are unable to go away for a holiday or who are on their own this summer. It will take place at The Good Shepherd on 16th and 17th August. To make this a success, help is needed in a variety of ways including transport, setting up the hall, meeting and greeting, table hosts, entertainment, cooking lunches, serving morning coffee and biscuits/afternoon tea and cakes etc. If you can help in any way please sign up on the list in one of our three churches.     THE NEXT STEP (bereavement support) will meet on the 7th of each month at 10am by the main entrance of Wisley Gardens for a walk and coffee. All welcome.
